Major General Mastin M. Robeson
U.S. Marine Corps Forces

Special Operations Command

A native of the Carolinas, Major General Robeson graduated from Chester High School and Bryan College, and was commissioned in December 1975.

His company grade assignments included rifle and weapons platoons in the 1st Marine Division, command of a Marine Detachment afloat (USS Kennedy), Marine Barracks 8th and I, and command of rifle and weapons companies in 1st Battalion, 6th Marines.

As a field grade officer he instructed at the Amphibious Warfare School, commanded the Fleet AntiTerrorism Security Team Company and 1st Battalion, 6th Marines (BLT with 22nd MEU), and instructed at the US Army School of Advanced Warfighting. He also served in the Executive Secretariate for DOD and as the Military Assistant to the Secretary of Defense. He then returned to the 2D Marine Division where he commanded the 8th Marine Regiment.

Selected for Brigadier General in 2001, he has served as Assistant Division Commander and Commanding General of 2d Marine Division, Commander of Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa, Commanding General of 4th MEB (AT), Commanding General of 3d MEB, Commanding General of 3d Marine Division, Deputy Commander of III MEF, and CJ-5 for MNF-I in Iraq.  Major General Robeson assumed command of Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command in July 2008.

Major General Robeson is a graduate of Amphibious Warfare School, Command and Staff College, and Advanced Operational Art Studies Fellowship; and holds a Masters in Military Arts and Science.

He has served in Liberia, Desert Storm, Somalia, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

He is married, and has four children and three grandchildren.
