2. Justification – imputed righteousness of Christ

 Legal act of God by which he declares the sinner righteous on the basis of the perfect righteousness of Christ.  Takes place outside the sinner in the tribunal of God.  Removes the guilt of sin and is a once for all times act.  Not only has Christ taken penalty for our sins but give us His performance – positively obeying the Father in everything -- as our own.

“The creation of spiritual life in those dead in sin (Eph. 2:1).  It occurs on the depth of the human heart infusing new life which is capable of spiritual awareness, perception and response and is no longer alienated from God (Eph. 4:18).”

 4. Union with Christ – two different aspects of justification

1.              declared not guilty before God

2.              declared righteous in Christ – 2 Cor. 5:21

1.         representative union

2.         vital union

(1)     representative union – Rom. 5:18 through 1 transgression sin entered the world resulting in condemnation, though 1act of righteousness salvation entered world.

transgression by Adam represented us as if we sinned ourselves

salvation by Christ represented us in sacrifice for sin as if we had one it ourselves

 (2)  vital union – not only does sin no longer reign but grace reigns (Rom. 5:21).  The life of Christ enters the life of the believer through the Holy Spirit (Rom. 8:9-11; Eph. 1:13-14).  The believer is connected to the life changing power of Christ as a branch is connected to a vine (John 15).  Through the indwelling Holy Spirit and life of Christ we receive not only right standing before God but power which enables us to live the Christian life.

We are not only saved by the grace and power of God but we are sanctified and enabled to minister by the grace and power of God.

the principle work of the Spirit in applying redemption lies in making us holy and being filled with the Spirit simply means having all our faculties under His control rather tan under control of sin.

7. Authority in spiritual conflict – the church is on the offensive, the blows it receives are from     

retreating enemy.  Pilgrim’s Progress – 2 lions chained either side of road -the forces of darkness are so chained by victory of Christ they are unable to do anything which ultimately harms the cause of Christ.  The battles we fight should not be causes of anxiety.  They force us back to reliance upon Christ redemptive work and enhance our dignity and authority as redeemed saints who have the power to judge angels. 1 Cor. 6:3

Gift(s) of Holy Spirit given

Each believer is given a unique, supernatural gift or power by the Holy Spirit at regeneration for the service of other in the body of Christ

Adoption  richest answer of what a Christian is – “someone who has God as His Father.  To those who belong to Christ the Holy, omnipotent God is a loving Father.  They belong to His family; they may approach Him without hear and always be sure of His fatherly concern and care.  He is not an orphan but a son with all of the rights of a son or heir to the kingdom.
